Στην πρόσφατη πολύ σημαντική ανοιχτή διαδικτυακή συζήτηση, που διοργάνωσε ο Σύνδεσμος Βιομηχανιών Πλαστικών Ελλάδος με θέμα: «Ο ρόλος της βιομηχανίας πλαστικών μετά την πανδημία: Οι Προκλήσεις και οι Προοπτικές της», τοποθετήθηκε με παρέμβαση του ο Πρόεδρος του Σ.Β.Π.Ε., Βασίλειος Γούναρης.

Στην παρέμβαση του, ο κ. Γούναρης στάθηκε στη συμβολή των πλαστικών στην αντιμετώπιση της πανδημίας και αναφέρθηκε στις προσπάθειες του Σ.Β.Π.Ε. για να αναδείξει το πολύτιμο υλικό αλλά και το ρόλο της βιομηχανίας στη νέα εποχή, που ανατέλλει.

"Θα ήθελα, με τη σειρά μου να καλησπερίσω όλους όσοι θα παρακολουθήσουν αυτή την ενδιαφέρουσα, θέλω να ελπίζω, συζήτηση.

Θεωρήσαμε, με τα μέλη του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Συνδέσμου Βιομηχανιών Πλαστικών Ελλάδος, ότι ήταν απαραίτητη η διοργάνωση αυτής της συζήτησης, έστω και διαδικτυακά, μιας και ακόμη δεν έχουν αρθεί τα περιοριστικά μέτρα για την εξάπλωση της πανδημίας.

Αυτή η περιπέτεια, που δυστυχώς δεν έχει ολοκληρωθεί, ανέδειξε με επιτακτικό τρόπο την χρησιμότητα των πλαστικών, τα οποία αποτέλεσαν την πρώτη ύλη του ατομικού εξοπλισμού, που μας προστάτευσε και μας προστατεύει από τον εξαιρετικά μεταδοτικό ιό.

Τα πλαστικά σε πολλές περιπτώσεις ήταν το υλικό, που έκανε τη διαφορά ανάμεσα στη ζωή και το θάνατο σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο.

Η πανδημία φανέρωσε, επίσης, τις στρεβλώσεις του παραγωγικού μοντέλου της Ελλάδας, που πλέον, όλοι συμφωνούμε ότι πρέπει να αλλάξει.

Η βιομηχανία θα πρέπει να αναλάβει έναν ηγετικό ρόλο στη μετάβαση προς
το νέο μοντέλο, που επιθυμούμε, έτσι ώστε η Ελλάδα να εκμεταλλευτεί την
συγκυρία και να μετατραπεί σε ένα σύγχρονο κράτος, με ευρεία παραγωγική βάση και αυτάρκεια στα βασικά προϊόντα.

Ο Σύνδεσμος Βιομηχανιών Πλαστικών Ελλάδος είναι έτοιμος, έχει διαμορφώσει το όραμα του για βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη του κλάδου μας, το οποίο περνά μέσα από την κυκλική οικονομία και την ανάδειξη του πλαστικού ως πολύτιμου πόρου, ο οποίος θα ανακτάται και θα χρησιμοποιείται, πλέον, ως πρώτη ύλη για την παραγωγή και τη μεταποίηση ενός προϊόντος.

Η βιομηχανία των πλαστικών είναι ένας κλάδος, που συνεισφέρει σημαντικά στην οικονομία της Ελλάδας, όπως πιστοποίησε πρόσφατα μελέτη του ΙΟΒΕ και αποτελεί ισχυρή μου πεποίθηση ότι μπορεί να διαδραματίσει κομβικό ρόλο στη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη της χώρας μας.

Επιδιώκουμε διαχρονικά τη συνεργασία με τις εκάστοτε κυβερνήσεις. Είχαμε πολύ καλή συνεργασία την τελευταία τριετία με την προηγούμενη κυβέρνηση και κατά την περίοδο της υγειονομικής κρίσης είχαμε μια εποικοδομητική συνεργασία και με την τωρινή.

Αυτή την περίοδο της κρίσης, αφουγκραστήκαμε τα αιτήματα των μελών μας και παρεμβήκαμε στα κέντρα λήψης αποφάσεων, με τρόπο πολύ αποφασιστικό.

Ο Σύνδεσμος Βιομηχανιών Πλαστικών Ελλάδος διεύρυνε θεαματικά τη βάση των μελών μας. Αναφέρομαι στον σχεδόν διπλασιασμό των μελών, που επιτεύχθηκε με πλήθος επαφών, συζητήσεων ενώ δημιουργήθηκαν ομάδες εργασίας για να ανταποκριθούμε με τον βέλτιστο τρόπο στα θέματα, που αντιμετωπίζει κάθε υποκλάδος της βιομηχανίας μας.

Ο ΣΒΠΕ μετασχηματίζεται σε έναν σύγχρονο οργανισμό, που συνεισφέρει στην ελληνική οικονομία, παρουσιάζει εποικοδομητικές προτάσεις σε όλους τους φορείς χάραξης πολιτικής και ανταποκρίνεται με τον καλύτερο δυνατό τρόπο στις σημερινές συνθήκες.

Τέλος, θέλω με αυτή την ευκαιρία να ευχαριστήσω τους εκλεκτούς μας καλεσμένους για την παρουσία τους σε αυτή τη συζήτηση και όλους όσοι βρίσκεστε στους υπολογιστές σας, στα tablet σας, στα κινητά σας, σε συσκευές δηλαδή, που έχουν παραχθεί και από πλαστικά, και μας παρακολουθείται αυτή τη στιγμή από όλα τα μέρη του πλανήτη.

I would like myself to welcome all who are going to attend this interesting, I hope, discussion.

Together with the members of the Board of Directors of the Association of Hellenic Plastic Industries, we have decided that this discussion had to be held, even over the Internet, since the restrictive measures against the pandemic have not been lifted yet.

This adventure, which unfortunately has not finished yet, has rather urgently highlighted the usefulness of plastic materials, which became the raw material for the personal equipment that protected and is still protecting us against the highly contagious virus.

In many cases, plastics were the material that made the difference between life and death at global level.

In Greece, as you might know, a lot of companies, members of the Association of Hellenic Plastic Industries, made significant investments or changed their production lines in order to produce protective equipment, antiseptics and sanitary ware, underlying the vital role plastics play in ensuring the most precious asset.

Human health!

The new age that is to rise after the end of the pandemic is bound to highlight the need for designing products on the basis of the health of the consumer. It is a hard lesson we had in this crisis and we should prove that we have learnt from that.

The pandemic also revealed the deformations of the production model of Greece, which we all now agree that has to be changed.

Industry should assume a leading role in the transition to the new model so that Greece can take advantage of the opportunity and become a modern state with a broad production base and sufficiency of basic products.

I think that today, after the end of this discussion, we will have a clearer picture of the role reserved for the Plastics Industry, which manages a material located at the heart of sustainability and innovation.

Plastic materials can be recycled.

Thanks to the spread of chemical recycling, not before long, those plastics that still resist will be recycled.

This is yet another solution, which will be attained thanks to research and the development of plastics industry in its attempt to improve the world we live in.

The transition from linear to circular economy will further promote the material and will certify that plastics industry will become the pillar of this emblematic change.

The vision of the Association of Hellenic Plastic Industries for the sustainable development of our industry passes through circular economy and the designation of plastic as a valuable resource, which will be recovered and used as raw material for manufacturing or processing a product.

However, on the occasion of this discussion, let me say a few things about the Association of Hellenic Plastic Industries before a broader audience that is with us today.

The plastics industry is a branch that contributes significantly to the economy of Greece, as recently certified by a study conducted by the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research, and it is my strong belief that it can play a key role in the sustainable development of our country.

The Association of Hellenic Plastic Industries has been for some years now a reliable partner of the State.

Cooperation across the political spectrum has always been our pursuit. We had a good cooperation in the three recent years with the previous administration and the practical expression of this is the presence of Mr. Famellos among the speakers today.

We have a good cooperation with the current administration as well, especially in this period of health crisis. The presence of Minister Mr. Georgiadis proves my word.

During the health crisis, we listened carefully to the requests of our members and intervened very decisively in the decision-making centres.

The Association of Hellenic Plastic Industries has to be a trustworthy discussion partner of any administration that discusses and responds to its requests.

We have established solid links with decision-making centres, not only in Greece, but also in Brussels, in cooperation with EuPC and PlasticsEurope, by submitting our views on all concerns of the Greek industry.

In addition, we have spectacularly broadened our membership base. We have almost doubled our members, which was achieved following numerous contacts and discussions, while work groups were created so that we could respond in the best possible way to the issues of every branch of our industry.

The Association of Hellenic Plastic Industries is transformed to a modern organization that contributes to the Greek economy, submits constructive proposals to all policymakers and responds in the best possible way to the current circumstances.

These circumstances require collective work so that we can finally turn the current problem of waste into an opportunity, which will lead to the sustainable development of industry, in full respect of environmental protection.

Finally, I would like on this occasion to thank our distinguished guests for their presence in this discussion as well as everyone attending through computers, tablets, smartphones, in other words, through devices made from plastic too, from all over the planet.

I hope you will extract useful conclusions from our discussion.
